How to Create Style for Standard Joomla Module

Submitted by on September 22, 2009 – 6:46 amNo Comment

Sometimes you may wish to use non-standard appearance of a standard Joomla module. This can be done by creation a style for the module.

How you can create a style?

It is very simple and requires minimum of your time. Just create ../template/html/module_name/default.php file with html code of page layout.

There is a trick here: you can use default.php file with standard style of the module as a basis for you own style.

So, to create a style for the module, you should:

  1. Create html folder within ../templates; create another folder there and name it by the module’s name (for example, mod_login).
  2. Copy ../modules/mod_login/tmpl/default.php to ../template/html/module_name/;
  3. Edit ../template/html/mod_login/default.php to get the desired appearance of the module.

Note: make sure that module name in ../template/html/module_name is the same as in the ../modules/module_name.

The created style will be automatically applied to the module. If there will no default.php file in ../template/html/mod_login/, Joomla will use standard style from ../modules/mod_login/tmpl/default.php.
